Denver Creates / Hub Day
Photography is a hobby to me and in no way, do I consider myself a photographer. With that said I have been working hard on expanding and perfecting my skills at taking photos. Cannabis and product photography are areas that I have felt comfortable and excelled in the last year. Portraits and photographing people in general is something that I have no quite practiced or attempted. At the end of January I was able to attend an event to try and step out of my comfort zone.
There is a photographer in Denver @sarakckane that has quickly become one of my favorite accounts to follow. At the beginning of January, she posted that she would be holding a meetup in the Denver area for creatives. The last Denver Create she held I was too nervous to attend, but for the January event I asked @CannaBananaaa if she would want to go with me!
Over 50 photographers and models showed up to Evergreen Lake House to be a part of the Hub Day meet up. We all stood in a circle to introduce ourselves and begin the daily activities. Usually these things are done as a bigger group, but at Evergreen Lake House you need permits for groups larger than 15! After the brief introductory period we broke off into smaller groups and scattered around the park to create.
I was so nervous once the introductions finished and everybody was starting to partner up and move into different directions. Thank goodness for @CannaBananaaa and her ability to connect with people because if it wasn’t for her I feel like I’d still be standing there waiting for the courage to move in the right direction. We started out in the snow taking pictures in front of fences, benches, and the lake. After getting a little chilly we snuck into the ice skating rental cabin to snap some shots in there as well. There were a ton of cool places to take pictures inside and out. After getting warmed up we headed out to the boardwalk bridge where tons of creatives were gathered to see what was next! From here the whole group decided to go over to the second location
That Saturday was hands down one of the coolest things I have ever been apart of. Everybody was so open and nice to each other. Usually with artists and creatives there is a level of keeping your tips and tricks to yourself, but I was so happy to see how many photographers and models were willing to help with anything! It’s so refreshing to see that as creators of content we are finally starting to help and lift up others. There’s no place in this world for making people feel less than they are. To everybody who attended the Denver Hub Day & everybody I got to work with, I thank you for helping me find another step in my hobby!
